The excitement surrounding the Schiaparelli show in Paris for Haute Couture Week 2022 has been building for a while now – not only as it marks the Maison's first physical show since the start of the Coronavirus pandemic, but also because the past year has seen such a meteoric surge in the brand's popularity.

With the brilliant Daniel Roseberry at the helm since 2019, Schiaparelli's unique designs have made for some of the most memorable event looks of recent times – think Bella Hadid at Cannes Film Festival, Cardi B at Paris Fashion Week and, of course, Lady Gaga at President Joe Biden's inauguration.

Interestingly, however, the larger-than-life, colourful dresses and gilded mouldings of body parts which have taken the fashion world by storm were nowhere to be seen in Roseberry's latest Schiaparelli haute couture collection, which was shown this week in Paris in front of a star-studded, Schiaparelli-clad FROW.

Instead, Schiaparelli's spring/summer 2022 show was all about discipline, with sharp silhouettes and a toned-down palette of black, ecru and gold. In an interview with WWD, Roseberry revealed that he had purposefully wanted to go against the grain of what would be expected of him and the brand – and the results were no less spectacular.

The colours on the runway may have been more pared-back than usual but the designs most certainly were not, with Roseberry sending some of the most otherworldly shapes we have seen to date down the runway. It was a new look, but one that felt familiar thanks to the inclusion of plenty of Schiaparelli's signature Surrealist style elements – though this time with a sci-fi and often ceremonial twist.

The resulting collection is the stuff of show-stopping, red-carpet dreams – and we can't wait to see these pieces in action come Awards Season. Stylists, sharpen your elbows.
