Scarlett Johansson: Black Widow Is My Favourite Role

Scarlett Johansson has revealed the character she’s most enjoyed playing, and it’s probably no surprise that it’s one of Marvel’s finest.

While attending an event in her name, quite literally as it was called Celebrate Scarlett – An Evening with Scarlett Johansson, the actress was asked the difficult question about her favourite ever role.

Over the years Johansson’s assumed a number of interesting and iconic personas, from the beginning of her career as Charlotte in ‘Lost in Translation, to Mary Boleyn in ‘The Other Boleyn Girl’, to The Female in ‘Under The Skin’; but her number one role was in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

As Black Widow/Natasha Romanoff, Johansson claimed to Michigan Avenue that no other came close.

“I really like playing Natasha, playing the Black Widow [in ‘Avengers Assemble’, ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Avengers: Age of Ultron’, and ‘Captain America: Civil War’]. It’s been an interesting journey, to take a character and grow it over these years, and peel the layers back and be able to, as you do in life, grow with this person. It’s a character that’s really enigmatic and has an amazing origins story, so there’s a lot for me to play off of.”

Having appeared in no less than five Marvel movies, it’s no surprise she’d have more of a connection to this character over others. As she says, there’s been far more chance to develop and explore the character, especially with the prospect of a hotly tipped solo movie on the way.

With Johansson gearing up for the live-action ‘Ghost in the Shell’, the actress looks set to create another memorable character (for all its ‘whitewashing’ controversy), with an appearance in the upcoming ‘Infinity War’ movies likely but as yet unconfirmed.
