Saw 10 (or Saw X, to use its official titling) has finished filming, with just eight months left until its pencilled-in release date.

The latest instalment in the horror franchise has been given a release date of October 27, 2023, which hasn't changed despite the fact that filming only wrapped up a few days ago.

Perhaps a new release date is imminent, or the filmmakers think they can get the editing, ADR, foreign dubbing, etc. done in a relatively short amount of time.

Returning director Kevin Greutert recently explained on Twitter that making Saw X was a gruelling process at times and may have taken longer than expected. However, he was still full of praise for the cast and crew for their dedication.

"Just wrapped shooting on Saw X, and though the challenges were huge (easy films are rarely worthwhile in the end), it was one of the most rewarding and epic experiences of my life," he wrote.

"Cast and crew were firing on all cylinders, though almost everyone involved was new to the SAW universe, and I got COVID in the final 2 weeks of production, and the movie was made entirely on edgy locations here in Mexico City.

"My fingers are trembling with anticipation as I look forward to starting to edit. I hope we can use the title 'Saw X' because this chapter really gets back to the roots of what makes SAW so special to me and everyone else who loves John Kramer’s saga."

He thanked the cast, giving a special shoutout to John Kramer/Jigsaw actor Tobin Bell, and crew members, plus the prosthetics team. Greutert also thanked studio Lionsgate for "trusting me with this blood-splitting beast of a story".

As well as Tobin Bell, the film also features a return from Shawnee Smith — despite the fact that her character, Amanda Young, is also dead.

Saw X is due for release on October 27... for now.
