According to Jonathan Chan, Reviewed's senior manager of lab operations and testing, the Animal is a more affordable version of the Ball Animal 2 ($499.99). Though the Animal has a slighter weaker motor compared to the Animal 2, it still has the same easy-to-use bagless canister and agile ball joint at the bottom of the vacuum that helps users maneuver around floor obstacles. Those elements made the Animal 2 our favorite upright Dyson vacuum—and you can get them in the Animal at a far more affordable price.

Though an older model, the Dyson Ball Animal has short and stiff bristles to remove dirt trapped deep in carpets. It also comes with a tangle-free turbine tool attachment that traps hair and ground-in dirt from specific spots on furniture and countertops. Dyson recommends that the accompanying HEPA filter should be washed every three months for best performance and long-lasting use.
