The European Union clinched a deal in the early hours of Wednesday on a landmark law to make its climate-change goals legally binding, including a target to slash its net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% this decade. The deal arrives just in time for a summit of world leaders hosted by the U.S. government on Thursday and Friday, where the EU and other global powers will promote their pledges to protect the planet. The European climate law sets the framework that will guide EU climate-related regulations in the coming decades, steering it towards reaching zero net emissions by 2050 - a pathway which, if adopted globally, would limit global temperature increases to 1.5 degrees above pre-industrial levels and avoid the worst impacts of climate change.

On Tucker Carlson Tonight Tuesday, Carlson put an abrupt end to an interview with a former New York City deputy sheriff and corrections officer, Ed Gavin, who disagreed with him on the outcome of the murder trial of Derek Chauvin. Hours earlier, Chauvin, a former Minneapolis police officer, was found guilty on all counts for the murder of George Floyd last May. Carlson opened the show claiming that the jury only voted to convict Chauvin because they were scared, and later questioned if we can “trust the way this decision was made.” This came just a day after Carlson accused the media of “lynching” Chauvin. Gavin, on the other hand, couldn’t have seen things more differently. “That was clearly an excessive, unjustified use of force. I think the verdict was just,” Gavin said. “I think we had documentary evidence, we had testimonial evidence, and it was an open and shut case. But moving forward, what we need to do, in my opinion, is we need to have…” “How about enforce the law? Do we need to do that?” Carlson interrupted before proceeding to trash the police. “Let's say people are going through the windows of Macy's and the cops are just standing there. Do they resign because obviously their honor is being violated, but they are not doing anything about it, when do they start doing something about protecting everyone else, not just George Floyd?” Carlson would once again interrupt later in the interview as Gavin attempted to elaborate on his thoughts, but this time, Gavin wouldn’t get another chance. As Carlson finished what he had to say after interrupting, Gavin tried to finish what he was saying but the camera cut away and Carlson said, “Nope. Done.”

While technology has been a blessing this pandemic year — giving us the ability to interact via Zoom and keep each other safe — it’s also had prominent negative impacts. Our over-consumption of social media has created a dangerous comparison culture where young people are judging themselves against filtered, unrealistic beauty standards. It’s not just psychologists and TikTok therapists who are talking about the curse of social media. Today, Lizzo has something to say about it. The “Truth Hurts” singer just posted a nude selfie on Instagram — with no filter and zero edits — to send an important message about self-esteem to her 10.2 million followers. “Welcome to Taurus season,” Lizzo captioned her post, a nod to her Zodiac sign. “To celebrate I wanna give y’all this unedited selfie,” Lizzo continued. “Now normally I would fix my belly and smooth my skin, but baby, I wanted show u how I do it au natural.” View this post on Instagram A post shared by Lizzo (@lizzobeeating) In addition to championing body positivity, Lizzo goes on to explain how the selfie also celebrates her new beauty partnership with Dove. “I am excited to be partnering with Dove and the #DoveSelfEsteemProject, which is helping to reverse the negative effects of social media and changing the conversation about beauty standards,” she continued. The mission of Dove’s Self-Esteem Project is to foster a more positive and empowering space for young people on social media. The brand’s latest campaign, ‘The Selfie Talk,’ which launched today, advocates against the prevalent “digital distortion,” primarily on Instagram. The hope is that we can all take a cue from celebrities like Lizzo, lay off the retouching apps, and celebrate our authentic beauty — and Taurus season. Like what you see?
