San Diego Humane Society Volunteer Rehabs Kitten Rescued From New Mexico Wildfires

The San Diego Humane Society (SDHS) in California helped rehab a kitten rescued from the Calf Canyon/Hermits Peak wildfires in Las Vegas, New Mexico, along with several other animals impacted by the fires.

Firefighters found the kitten with blood around her mouth and nose on May 20, the SDHS told Storyful, and handed her over to Summer Piper, an SDHS volunteer who traveled to New Mexico to help.

“When Summer took her to the vet the same day, the vet said that she had a severe upper respiratory infection and the blood was caused by the raw nose and throat,” the SDHS said.

After spending time at the vet and at the SDHS’s temporary animal shelter, Piper reported the kitten already “looked so much better.”

The SDHS reported that as of May 23, there were 19 dogs and two cats in the shelter.
