Samuel L Jackson: My Star Wars Character Is Still Alive

You’d have thought that Samuel L Jackson wouldn’t want anything to do with another franchise thanks to his repeated turns as Nick Fury in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

But Jackson has now opened the door to a possible return to ‘Star Wars’ after insisting that Mace Windu, who he portrayed in the prequel trilogy, is definitely still alive. He asked George Lucas and everything.

During a Twitter Q&A Jackson was asked whose idea it was to kill off Mace Windu, who killed Jango Fett and was one of the coolest elements of the trilogy. After he explained that Lucas oversaw the character’s destruction because he was the last one of any importance to survive ‘Revenge Of The Sith’, he then emphatically added, “In my mind I’m not dead. Jedis can fall incredibly high distances and not die.”

Entertainment Weekly then decided to push Jackson even further on this topic on Wednesday morning, to which the actor responded, “Of course he is! Jedis can fall from amazing distances. And there’s a long history of one-handed Jedi. So why not?”

For those that either don’t remember or have banished the ‘Star Wars’ prequels from their memories, in ‘Attack Of The Clones’ Mace Windu had his arm chopped off by Anakin Skywalker before Emperor Palpatine used the Force to push him out of a tower to what looked like certain death.

Jackson even found support from George Lucas in his pursuit to resurrect Mace Windu, admitting that after he suggested he was still alive to the filmmaker he responded, “I’m okay with that. You can be alive.”

Unfortunately, since George Lucas now has next to nothing to do with the ‘Star Wars’ universe Jackson will need to convince producer Kathleen Kennedy that the character is still alive and kicking in order for him to bring his purple lightsaber out of retirement.
