Sam's Club to add 30 stores in next few years, first new location opening in Florida

Walmart's Sam's Club announced Thursday it plans to add 30 stores across the nation over the next several years.

The move marks the first expansion for the nation's largest retailer since 2017.

Based in Bentonville, Arkansas, Walmart said the first new Sam's Club location will open in Florida next year.

Walmart's Sam's Club division has seen strong sales growth and a record rise in membership over the past two years, the company reported. For the latest quarter ending Oct. 28, sales at Sam's Club stores open for at least a year rose 10%.For Walmart, that figure was up 8.2%.

"We're excited to bring the experience of Sam’s Club to even more markets as we expand our footprint," Sam's Club CEO Kathryn McLay said. "And as we open new clubs in new locations, we’ll continue to innovate so that our members shop and save whether in person or online."

Sam's Club also said it plans to modernize its distribution network. Sam’s Club will launch five new supply chain fulfillment and distribution centers, with the first location planned in Georgia later this year.

The most recent new Sam's Club opened in in Hanover, Pennsylvania.
