Salman Rushdie Airlifted to Hospital Following Attack

Author Salman Rushdie had been removed from a ventilator on Sunday, August 14, after he was stabbed several times during an event on Friday morning in Chautauqua, New York.

The New York Times reported that Rushdie’s agent, Andrew Wylie, said Rushdie’s "injuries are severe, but his condition is headed in the right direction.”

This video shows Rushdie being airlifted from the Chautauqua Institution on Friday.

The suspect, 24-year-old Hadi Matar of Fairview, New Jersey, was charged with attempted murder and assault, New York State Police said. Credit: Anonymous via Storyful
