For safety’s sake, East Ferris kids light the night

Dark nights are falling faster these days, and some East Ferris kids may not make it home before the light dies. Thanks to the East Ferris Police Services Board, these dark eves will now be brighter, as the board recently gave out some LED flashing bracelets to the children.

Students at École élémentaire catholique Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin and Ferris Glen Public School all received some of the red flashing lights. This was after hearing a detailed talk about road safety from members of the Police Services Board and the Ontario Provincial Police.

For those who missed the presentation, you can pick up your own flashing safety bracelet at the Municipal Office at 25 Taillefer Road, in Corbeil. These are for local students who have not received one yet. The price of such a practical safety device? It’s free.

“The Police Services Board have tried on an annual basis to do something in the schools with the Ontario Provincial Police,” noted Mayor Pauline Rochefort, who also chairs the Police Services Board. The Board makes sure the community’s youth know about the police, and what they do for residents.

One of the big campaigns is to teach kids about road safety. “It’s an annual activity,” Mayor Rochefort added, designed to teach students about navigating the dangers of the road. Visibility is the key, and a bright flashing LED light accomplishes that quite well.

With Halloween bringing the children out by the bushel, the gift of light is timely, and the kids enjoyed receiving them. “They are appreciative, and it makes a difference,” the Mayor noted. “The lights have been very positively received.”
