Sacramento sheriff’s homicide detectives detain suspect after woman found dead

Sacramento County homicide detectives detained a suspect after a woman was found dead Wednesday morning at a Rio Linda home, sheriff’s officials said.

The woman was found dead at the home in the 6500 block of Rio Linda Boulevard, just north of Elkhorn Boulevard, according to a news release from the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office.

About 7:40 a.m. Wednesday, the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a neighboring law enforcement agency that had spoken to an adult resident at the home on an unrelated matter. During the phone conversation with the resident, the other law enforcement agency was concerned a medical emergency had occurred in the home .

Medics from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived at the Rio Linda home to provide medical aid and found the woman with “severe trauma” and “obviously deceased,” sheriff’s officials said.

Shortly after, sheriff’s deputies arrived at the home and secured the scene, according to the news release. Sheriff’s homicide detectives canvassed the area to look for witnesses as crime scene investigators collected evidence.

Sheriff’s officials said the detectives detained someone who they believe is the “sole suspect for this murder,” but did not release any further details about the suspect or any other information about the woman’s death.

The Sacramento County Coroner’s Office will release the woman’s name once her family has been properly notified.
