Sacramento sheriff detectives arrest nurse accused of endangering child with disabilities

Sacramento County sheriff’s detectives arrested an in-home licensed vocational nurse suspected of endangering the life of a 13-year-old child with disabilities.

Edgar Gomez Burgion, 48, of Sacramento County was arrested on suspicion of six counts of child endangerment and one count of attempting to commit an offense because of a disability, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office announced in a news release Friday afternoon.

The Sheriff’s Office’s child abuse detectives arrested Burgion on Thursday. He was booked that morning at the Sacramento County Jail, where he remained in custody Friday evening. His bail amount was set at $500,000. Burgion was scheduled to appear for his arraignment hearing Monday afternoon in Sacramento Superior Court.

Sheriff’s officials said in the news release that Burgion worked as an in-home licensed vocational nurse for “a severely mentally and physically disabled 13-year-old child.”

The Sheriff’s Office did not release any further details about the circumstances that led to Burgion’s arrest or the “active and ongoing criminal investigation.”

Detectives asked anyone with information regarding this investigation to call and ask for the Sheriff’s Office Child Abuse Bureau at 916-874-5191.
