Sacramento Metro Fire crews find man dead inside burned Carmichael home

A man was found dead Thursday afternoon inside a burned Carmichael home after a fire gutted the duplex along El Camino Avenue.

The fire was reported about 2:45 p.m. at the home in the 5000 block of El Camino, just west of Walnut Avenue. Firefighters from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District responded to the home and knocked down the blaze.

Sacramento Metro Fire spokesman Capt. Parker Wilbourn said an adult was found dead inside the home, but it was unclear to authorities at the scene whether the person found was a man or woman. Metro Fire later confirmed it was a man who was found in an area of the two-unit home that was most involved with fire and subjected to arcing power lines.

Metro Fire officials called a crew from the Sacramento Municipal Utility District after flames spread to nearby power lines that were knocked down and burned.

No other buildings were damaged by the fire, according to Metro Fire. Wilbourn said the cause of the fire was under investigation.
