Sacramento Kings extend two-way qualifying offer to Portuguese big man Neemias Queta

The Kings have extended a qualifying offer to second-year center Neemias Queta, which will make him a restricted free agent when free agency begins Thursday.

A league source told The Sacramento Bee the team tendered a two-way qualifying offer to the Portuguese big man who spent time with the Kings and their G League affiliate in Stockton last season.

Queta can accept the offer and return to the Kings on a second one-year, two-way contract or seek a standard contract in free agency. Sacramento will have the right to match if another team offers Queta a standard contract.

The Kings selected Queta, 22, with the 39th overall pick in the 2021 NBA draft. He made history in his NBA debut against the Memphis Grizzlies on Dec. 17 in Sacramento, becoming the first player from Portugal to appear in an NBA game.

Queta appeared in 15 games for the Kings, averaging 3.0 points, 2.1 rebounds and 0.5 blocks in 8.0 minutes per contest. He averaged 15.4 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.2 blocks in 11 games with the G League Stockton Kings.

The Kings have named Queta to their summer league roster for the California Classic, which will be held July 2-5 at Chase Center in San Francisco. They will play the Golden State Warriors on Saturday, the Miami Heat on Sunday and the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday.
