Sacramento County releases name of North Highlands man shot to death by burglar

Authorities released the name of a North Highlands man who was shot to death at his home while confronting a burglar armed with a stolen gun.

Gennadiy Ivanovich Mironov, 62, died in the shooting about 5:30 a.m. Monday in North Highlands, according to the Sacramento County Coroner’s office.

The shooting suspect, who left the scene before deputies arrived, was believed to have been burglarizing vehicles in the area before entering the back yard of Mironov’s home in the 4100 block of Greenlawn Way, the Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office has said in a news release. The suspect then entered “a detached structure” where he most likely stole a gun from a gun safe, sheriff’s officials said.

Investigators believe Mironov confronted the burglar in the detached structure, where the homeowner was shot multiple times in the upper body.

A resident then called 911 to report that someone had come onto the property and shot a family member, sheriff’s officials said. Medics from the Sacramento Metropolitan Fire District arrived and took Mironov to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead hours later.
