Sacramento-area chocolate shop to close its storefront after decades of business

After 25 years of business, Capital Confections in Arden Arcade announced it’s closing its storefront next month.

The chocolate shop on 2605 El Paseo Lane in the Town and Country Village wrote on Facebook Tuesday to announce its September closing, citing financial difficulty due to a proposed new rent.

“We have had multiple offers to partner with new (younger) entrepreneurs to carry on the tradition, but have not been successful because of the proposed new rent,” the shop wrote on its Facebook page in a farewell post to customers. “It is difficult to say good bye to something we built and something loved by the public for decades without the possibility of it continuing here at Town & Country Village.”

Those who want to say farewell to the shop can toast with chocolate business owners Teresa and Craig Higgins at Capital Confections from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Aug. 27.

Some chocolate will continue to be made out of a “certified” kitchen and the business will broker large chocolate orders through its website, the Facebook post stated.
