Rylan Clark-Neal has opened up about his "needed" break from the spotlight earlier this year.

The media personality, who rose to fame on The X Factor in 2012, announced that he was stepping down from all of his work commitments back in June, as he explained that he and his husband of five years, Dan Clark-Neal, were in the process of ending their marriage.

Addressing his time away while appearing on Lorraine yesterday morning (Tuesday, November 30), as well as his return to shows such as Strictly Come Dancing: It Takes Two and BBC Radio 2's breakfast broadcast, the 33 year old said he was feeling much better.

"I was not good, I think everybody knows that," he told eponymous host Lorraine Kelly. "I am usually on TV every five minutes – I apologise if you see my mug all the time – but I had four months off and it was needed. Maybe the time off is what I needed. But I am good."

Clark also touched on his recent decision to remove his veneers, which have been somewhat of a trademark of his over the past couple of years.

"They are a lot smaller [now], Lorraine! They are a lot smaller," he laughed, when she admitted she didn't "see a lot of difference with the teeth."

Talking about his decision to take a break back in, Rylan explained to The Sun that he'd made "a number of mistakes" throughout their relationship that "inevitably" led to their divorce, and that he "deeply regrets" his past behaviour.

"I am not in a good place at the moment and am seeking help," he told the publication. "I am trying to take each day at a time and would like to thank you to everyone for their support and for respecting our privacy at this time."

Lorraine airs weekdays from 8am on ITV.
