Ryan Gosling comments on status of Barbie 2

Barbie actor Ryan Gosling has spoken about the status of a sequel film.

Co-star Margot Robbie has stated that she "can't imagine" there being a follow-up film to this year's blockbuster hit, but director Greta Gerwig has said she'd like the film to be "the launch of a world and a bunch of different Barbie movies", even if she has no specific ideas about how to do it herself.

At a BFI conversation in London this week (via Variety), Gosling was asked about the possibility of a follow-up, stating: "Oh, I'm not going anywhere near that. We really know nothing.."

Gosling's co-star America Ferrera also took part in the event, and echoed his thoughts, but did drop the prospect of Ken getting his own film.

She said: "We have no information. I will say, what Greta and Margot have said is they did not set out to make a franchise. They put it all out on the table. Every bit of it that they loved and that they knew to do, they did. Which is refreshing, right?

"We're not setting it up for 20 years of Barbie movies. But then again, I know nothing, so there might be 20 years [of Barbie]… or a Ken spinoff?"

"Can it be a husky Ken?" Gosling added. "Can I play Husky Ken, like Sandwich Ken? Can I play that Ken next time?"

Gerwig recently shared that they "had way too much material for Ken. We would write, and write and write". So a Ken-focused spin-off may not be totally out of the question.

Barbie is available to rent for £4.99 or buy in the UK from Prime Video, iTunes, Microsoft Store and more. If you prefer a physical copy, you can buy Barbie on DVD, Blu-ray and 4K Ultra HD.
