Russia's Novatek asks Karpowership for floating plant to power Arctic LNG 2

ISTANBUL, Aug 10 (Reuters) - Russian gas producer Novatek has contacted Turkish floating power plant operator Karpowership about renting one of its vessels to provide electricity for the Arctic LNG 2 project, the Turkish company said.

Karpowership is conducting a preliminary evaluation of the request, including the impact of Western sanctions, a representative of the Turkish company said.

"We are evaluating the request from legal and technical perspectives. It is an important project for the global gas market and we want to ensure compliance with Western sanctions and address technical requirements prior to any sort of agreement," the representative said.

Novatek did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

Karpowership operates gas or floating power plants that can plug into local grids at short notice. Power ships can produce from 30 to 470 megawatt (MW) of electricity. (Reporting by Can Sezer; Editing by Daren Butler and David Holmes)
