Rude Icelandic Word Cleared For Guardians Of The Galaxy 2

Sure, it’s a fairly innocuous word here, but in Iceland, the use of ‘sneeper’ would cause more than a few titters.

So discovered James Gunn, director of 'Guardians of the Galaxy’, when it emerged he was planning to use the so-named alien race from the comics in the forthcoming sequel, 'Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2’.

Seemingly, the word is uncomfortably close to the word for 'clitoris’ in Icelandic (it’s spelled ‘snípur’, but pronounced in much the same fashion).

After such news emerged, Marvel’s jittery legal department got involved, suggesting that maybe Gunn use something else instead.

But now they’ve changed their tune, and given him the green light.

Writing on his Instagram page, he said: “Sneeper update. A couple weeks back I told you how the Marvel legal department advised against using Sneeper as an alien species in 'Guardians of the Galaxy’ because the word is 'similar to the word meaning 'clitoris’ in Icelandic’.

“Let it be known that I wasn’t protesting this decision, I just thought it was funny, so I shared it. But the Marvel legal folks are sweet people and, after all of the online articles about me not being able to use the term Sneeper, they came back and told me that maybe it’s not that big a deal after all: Sneeper is cleared for use.

“So keep an eye out for at least one Sneeper somewhere in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2.”

Excellent news, we think you’ll agree.

Work is clearly moving ahead with the sequel to the unexpected hit.

Chris Pratt, who plays Star Lord, told Digital Spy: “[Gunn’s] pitch and his idea literally put tears in my eyes. It is so good.

“I cannot wait to get started on it, and I cannot wait to see what he’s going to pull off with this second movie.”

It’s due out on May 5, 2017, so, y’know, not for a while yet.
