Royals’ Bobby Witt Jr., Nicky Lopez channel ‘Talladega Nights’ stars for commercial

The Kansas City Royals’ annual Broadcast Auction will take place during Wednesday night’s game against the Chicago White Sox.

There are some unique and fun items up for bids, including a pheasant hunting trip in Wisconsin with former Royals star Bo Jackson, dinner on the field at Kauffman Stadium with Hall of Famer George Brett and a happy hour with former Royals star Alex Gordon at Craft and Draft at Kauffman Stadium.

There also will be a “Nicky Bobby Experience” that will let one fan play Mario Cart on CrownVision with infielders Nicky Lopez and Bobby Witt Jr. “Nicky Bobby” is in reference to the movie, “Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby.”

Will Ferrell plays Ricky Bobby in the movie and John C. Reilly is his best friend/rival, Cal Naughton Jr. It’s Cal who loves saying “Shake & Bake” because “it rhymes, they’re both verbs. It’s awesome.”

Lopez and Witt have taken to the “Nicky Bobby” nickname, and there is even a T-shirt fans can buy that plays off that movie reference.

The Royals infielders shot a commercial to promote their item up for bids, and they channeled Ferrell and Reilly. This is a fun video (from KCTV’s Jared Koller)
