Luxury British fashion label Amanda Wakeley has fallen into administration, the company has confirmed.

The business was hit hard by the pandemic, after being forced to shut its stores for months, and has been unable to recover. Without finding a buyer to save it, the company has been forced to enter administration.

"Despite an extensive marketing process, attracting significant interest, and a huge effort from Amanda Wakeley and the company’s staff, it was not possible to find a buyer for the business," the brand said in a released statement. "The board therefore had to make the difficult decision to place the company into administration."

Wakeley launched her namesake label in 1990, catering to a classic and refined style, and became a firm favourite with the royal family, being worn by Princess Diana on a number of occasions, and more recently by the Duchess of Cambridge and the Duchess of Sussex.

The brand was also embraced by Hollywood, seen on celebrities including Jennifer Lopez and Angelina Jolie on the red carpet – and also became well-known for its wedding-dress collections.

"To our customers, many of whom have become our friends, thank you for your loyalty. It is an honour to design for you and I am deeply touched by the many messages of support concerning my family and the business through the crisis," the designer said in a heartfelt statement to her customers.
