Royal fans have been known to highlight Princess Charlotte's uncanny resemblance to the late Queen and Princess Diana, but most recently the seven-year-old has been compared to another family member who passed away over 20 years ago.

After a childhood photo of the Queen Mother resurfaced earlier this week, royal fans noticed the young royal is the spitting image of her great-great grandmother, who died on March 30, 2002.

The Glamis Castle, in Angus, Scotland (which was once the Queen Mother's childhood home) shared a black and white childhood photo of the Queen Mother on Twitter alongside an image of Princess Charlotte.

In their individual photos they are both looking straight into the camera with a sweet smile.

The organisation wrote in the caption: 'The youngest daughter of the 14th Earl of Strathmore, Lady Elizabeth Bowes Lyon married the Duke of York and went on to become Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother...

'When our castle archivist was looking at photographs of a young Lady Elizabeth below, we all agreed that there is a striking familial resemblance with her great-great-granddaughter, Princess Charlotte. Can you see the resemblance too? [sic]'

Fans agreed that the pair look almost identical to one another.

'Reincarnation [sic],' commented one person on the photo.

Other fans highlighted they share the 'same smile', their similarities are 'uncanny indeed' and that 'the resemblance is remarkable! [sic]'.

'Princess Charlotte's resemblance to her great grandmother, Queen Elizabeth has always been evident. Right down to her royal wave [sic],' wrote someone else.

Princess Charlotte shared a twinning moment with the Queen at her Platinum Jubilee in June, which celebrated her 70-year reign.

After the late Queen greeted the crowd with a signature regal wave, Princess Charlotte joined the 96-year-old with a similar gesture.

The moment happened after the Queen greeted the crowd gathered below, from a Buckingham Palace balcony, along with her eldest son.

At the time, the Queen was with the now King Charles III, and his wife Camilla, the newly appointed Queen Consort.

The only daughter of Kate Middleton and Prince William, the new Prince and Princess of Wales, later honoured the Queen at her funeral on September 9 when wearing a diamond brooch in the shape of a horseshoe - an ode to Her Majesty's love of horses and horse racing.

Prior to this, a photo was shared to the @Loveprincessdiana Instagram account, at which point royal fans spotted similarities between Princess Charlotte and the late Princess of Wales.

‘I have been saying - for a while now - that Charlotte is going to look a lot more like Diana than anyone thinks, [sic]’ wrote one person.

‘The lips and the way she is smiling is similar to Diana, [sic]' wrote another.

Princess Charlotte and her siblings, Prince George, nine, and Prince Louis, four, enrolled at Lambrook School near Ascot in September, after Middleton and Prince William moved to Adelaide Cottage in Windsor. They previously attended Thomas's Battersea.
