Lionsgate has pulled some recognisable names out of its hat, as casting news for Now You See Me 3 has just dropped.

The Hollywood Reporter writes that the upcoming third film in the magician heist franchise has added Gone Girl and Saltburn's Rosamund Pike, Detective Pikachu's Justice Smith, Barbie's Ariana Greenblatt, and The Holdovers' Dominic Sessa.

Woody Harrelson, Jesse Eisenberg, Dave Franco, Isla Fisher, and Morgan Freeman are all expected to return from the previous films as well.

Venom and Uncharted director Ruben Fleischer is taking over from Louis Leterrier and Jon M Chu, who helmed the first and second films, respectively.

Specific plot details, and news of whether more past stars like Daniel Radcliffe, Mark Ruffalo and Michael Caine are returning, are unknown at this time.

Back when the film was announced back in 2020, Lionsgate bosses said: "[Writer Eric Warren Singer] has always been fascinated with the fine art of deception and illusion in all of its forms and he came to us with a great story that takes the mythology of Now You See Me and pushes The Four Horsemen to a whole new level with our key returning cast and new characters.

"The Now You See Me franchise has been built on keeping the audience surprised and guessing. Any great magician knows, you can't keep doing the same tricks. And Eric and his team of illusionists have something special up their sleeve for this new film."

Ed Solomon, who wrote the first two films, explained why the second one wasn't called Now You Don't, despite that being the obvious choice.

"That was my title idea but the marketing people said no," he said.
