Rogue One will be released in UK cinemas even earlier than expected

Those of you that are counting down the days until ‘Rogue One’ is finally in cinemas are in luck as there is now one less day that you have to contend with.

That’s because ‘Rogue One: A Star Wars Story’ is actually being released into UK cinemas a day earlier than expected, after it was revealed that it will finally be with us on December 15.

This means that UK movie fans will have one over on their US counterparts, because it’s still only being released stateside on December 16.

Star Wars UK Twitter account made this surprising announcement, writing:

By this point, though, most UK moviegoers are used to seeing films opening here earlier than in the US. Marvel Studios usually release their latest instalments a week earlier across the pond than they do domestically, while ‘Star Wars: The Force Awakens’ hit cinemas on December 17, 2015, in the UK opposed to December 18, 2015, in the US.

‘Rogue One’ is the first standalone ‘Star Wars’ film to be released, and it will revolve around Felicity Jones’ Jyn Erso, with Diego Luna, Ben Mendelsohn, Donnie Yen, Mads Mikkelsen, Alan Tudyk, Jiang Wen, and Forest Whitaker also featuring.

It’s already been described as “an experiment, of sorts” by Disney’s CEO Bob Iger, while alongside ‘Star Wars 8’ and ‘Star Wars 9’ in 2017 and 2019 respectively, it will also be followed up by an origin story for ‘Han Solo’ that will be released in 2018.
