Yahoo Movies Robert Vadra wants to join electoral politics, enter Parliament
Robert Vadra, husband of Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, has expressed his desire to formally join electoral politics, according to an interview that he gave to IANS.
Claiming to be a victim of political vendetta, he asserted that he is being subjected to grilling by the Income Tax department and other agencies at the behest of the Narendra Modi government.
“I am related to a family that has for generations served the people of this country and have even been martyred for the country. I have seen, learnt, campaigned, spent time in different parts of the country and I suppose to fight this kind of dynamic, I have to be in Parliament," he told IANS.
Vadra also insisted that he is used as a ‘punching bag’ by the government and rejected the accusation of owning any 'benami' property.
“These are just rumours and there is nothing against me, there is no basis on which they can say anything like this, they have no clarity on it. All this is to divert attention from the real issues that the government is facing,” he claimed.
Elaborating the reason why he wanted to enter active politics, he said: "... now I do feel I have fought this from the outside for far too long. I have explained myself, cleared myself but they trouble me constantly as I am not in politics. I always kept away from politics because I have my set of beliefs.”
He remained diplomatic about exactly where he would want to contest in the elections from.
However, his statements to the wire agency seemed to suggest that he would look for a ‘safe seat’ as he said he would look for a place where people would want to vote for him to represent them.
He said that if his family approves of it and if he could make a difference to the lives of people in that area, he would contest elections.
