Robert Downey Jr lands next lead movie role
Iron Man star Robert Downey Jr has landed his next lead movie role in a Universal Pictures book adaptation.
Adapted from Julianna Baggott’s short story The Hider, Deadline reports that the studio has landed the rights to the book and is eyeing up Downey Jr to star.
Ant-Man and the Wasp writers Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari will adapt the short story, which the studio hopes will follow on from the success of Oppenheimer.

Details about the plot are currently being kept under wraps and the project is in the early development stages.
Downey Jr is on board to produce the film under his Team Downey banner alongside Susan Downey and Amanda Burrell. Tory Tunnell and Joby Harold will produce for Safehouse Pictures. On executive producing duties is Julianna Baggott, and Finneas Scott will co-produce.
The move will see Downey Jr reunite with Universal Pictures following his critically acclaimed role in Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which won him the Oscar for best supporting actor.

Previously speaking about his role in Oppenheimer with W Magazine, Downey Jr said: "There have been three times in my career when I became completely obsessed with the possibility of playing a role.
"First time was Chaplin. Second time was Tony Stark, in Iron Man. And the third time – I got the trifecta, and you're lucky if this happens a couple of times – was with Lewis Strauss, for Oppenheimer.
"I knew a little bit about my character because I'm kind of a Cold War enthusiast. I don't know why I've been obsessed with it. I think that, sadly, that period informs where we are nowadays in the world. I knew that Strauss was involved in the development of the proximity fuse and that he headed up the Atomic Energy Commission."
The Hider does not yet have a release date.
