Yahoo Movies Rising water strands hiker on riverside, leading to rescue near campsite, Utah cops say
A hiker was left stranded on a riverside near a Utah campground, the sheriff’s office said.
Rescuers were called around 5:23 p.m. Pacific time on Sunday, May 22, to the south side of the Little Cottonwood River in Sandy, the Salt Lake County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue said in a Facebook post.
The hiker was near the Tanners Flat Campground in Little Cottonwood Canyon.
It took three teams of rescuers to take the hiker from one side of the river to the other, deputies said.
The hiker was freed around 8:15 p.m. and was not injured.
The sheriff’s office warned of snow melt increasing water levels throughout the day as it warms up. It said to “plan accordingly” and know where “safe and appropriate crossing points are.”
“Know your route, bring the essentials and pack accordingly,” the sheriff’s office said in the post.
The campground is about 25 miles southeast of Salt Lake City.
