Rising COVID-19 Cases, Assembly Election Results and Suspension of Kangana's Twitter Account: Highlights from Social Media
The past week was quite an eventful one on social media, with netizens commenting on topics from COVID-19, assembly election results to suspension of Kangana Ranaut's twitter account. As usual, the social media was ripe with interesting comments in the last week.
As India is grappling with the second wave of coronavirus, it is important to work together in eradicating the virus from the world. Businesswoman and author Apurva Purohit stresses on the need to show empathy during these tough times.
We had the best frontline workers. We had the best IT brains. We had the best doctors. We had NGOs working everywhere. We had generous communities across religions willing to serve the poor & needy. All it needed was someone who had ability & empathy to channelize these resources.

On Tuesday, Bangalore South MP Tejasvi Surya read out a list of 17 Muslim staffers while making allegations about the bed blocking scam. The 17 members have been branded as 'terrorists', subjected to harassment and threat messages besides spending two days in a police station hoping for an early conclusion to the inquiry.
Many women including lawyer Kawalpreet Kaur and journalist Rohini Singh raised their voice against the injustice in the case.
Tejaswi Surya is one vile young person living today. He doesn’t give a shit about people losing lives to Covid. He deliberately read names of only 17 Muslims out of total 205 employees who were part of BBMP South Bangalore War room. Bangaloreans- now is the time to speak out!!

Only in India is a national disgrace who, in the middle of a pandemic, chose to spread hate against Muslims to take attention away from his own government’s abject failings is described as ‘smart, passionate, talented.’ Ok then.

Meanwhile actor and TV host Simi Garewal commented on Mamata Banerjee’s victory in the West Bengal elections.
I tweeted this in Dec 2019. Our @MamataOfficial has always fought unwaveringly against injustice. A symbol of the intrinsic strength of the Indian woman. I salute her. Our Bengal tigress - you RULE!!! 👏👏👏👍https://t.co/o3EUPmUyJ2

Noted advocate Karuna Nundy too congratulated the DMK members for their victory in the Tamil Nadu state.
Congratulations to @mkstalin @KanimozhiDMK, @manuraj1983 and all those in the DMK who delivered this resounding defeat to Hindutva and Hindi hegemony, and also to a deathly level of incompetence. #TamilNaduElections https://t.co/L0u43QhSfp

In another news, actor Kangana Ranaut was permanently suspended from Twitter earlier this week, for violating the platform's policies, particularly with regard to 'Hateful Conduct policy and Abusive Behaviour'.
Here is what former BJP MP from Andhra Pradesh, Geetha Kothapalli and Diva, a transmedia artist and Dalit activist has to say.
Dear @TwitterIndia who are you ? Who gave you the authority to decide which tweet is legal and which is not ? You are not above the law of the land .. Your Bias against the RW is clearly visible . we are with you Kangana #KanganaVsTwitter pic.twitter.com/FjltmsxrWw

Actually what @Twitter has done is they finally enforced their policies over a bigot who called for mass atrocity. This is not an issue of a colonial entity censuring a brown woman, this was an issue of a well heeled bigot being deplatformed for genocidal hate speech. #kangana https://t.co/7W3NbV287C
