Rihanna's $6,860 Pantless Date Look Feels like The Winter Version of Princess Diana's Most Famous Outfit

If Princess Diana were alive today, she would probably still be wearing oversized sweatshirts and orange bike shorts. But if she had to visit New York in the dead of winter for date night, she'd also probably look a little bit like a pantsless Rihanna, who is, when you think about it, basically the people's princess of today.

While on a date with A$AP Rocky, Rihanna wore an oversized Martine Rose soccer jersey, leather Miu Miu gloves, Saint Laurent rhinestone-embellished earrings, a red Balenciaga puffer, the trendiest Amina Muaddi Georgia crystal-strap suede wrap sandals, and an R13 baseball cap. The entire outfit costs just under $7,000, so just imagine wht the net worth would be if Queen Rih Rih had decided to actually wear pants.

But this type of doesn't-really-make-sense dressing is just as iconic now as it was when Princess Diana did it. Sometimes you just want to wear an oversized soccer jersey as a dress to a date, and sometimes it also just so happens to be 20 degrees outside. This is where the statement oversized puffer comes in. While Rihanna's cost over $3,000, Ugg makes one for just under $250, BP's take is only $79, and Ganni's is just as likely to be seen at NYFW for $525.

The reality is, Rihanna doesn't necessarily have to dress in layers like the rest of us because she has a private car and a chauffeur. But still, she gives us the confidence to throw on our sparkliest pair of heels with an oversized shirt and our biggest puffer jacket, and call it a day. Basically, even in 2022, hard pants are out. That is, unless they're joots.
