Article updated on 1/06/22: Rapper A$AP Rocky has opened up about new fatherhood after welcoming his baby boy on May 13 with his girlfriend, beauty mogul and musical artist Rihanna. In a cover interview for Dazed, the musician shared a bit about his hopes for parenthood and the values he wants to pass on to his child.
When asked what kind of dad he wants to be, the musician said, 'I will always remind my children to never lose their imagination, even as adults, no matter what. I actually love to watch cartoons – I’ve watched like, Teletubbies, Blue’s Clues, Yo Gabba Gabba, Peppa Pig and Baby Shark.'
He continued, 'I hope to raise open-minded children. Not people who discriminate. And I’m not trying to describe a saint, but realistically, I just want a cool child with cool parents.'
In the interview, A$AP also opened up about his relationship with Rihanna, who the rapper affectionately refers to as 'my lady,' as well as a small glimpse into the couple's baby shower. The musician explained that guests received t-shirts to take home that read, 'I went to Rih & Rocky’s Rave Shower and all I got was this amazing shirt.'
A source told People that the Fenty Beauty founder and her rapper beau are 'doing great' in their roles as first-time parents. The source said: 'Being a new parent is of course an adjustment, but they are doing great. Their baby boy is healthy and Rihanna is just in awe of him.
'She really was so excited to be pregnant. She loved it. Meeting her son was of course extremely special too. Rihanna barely leaves his side. She is a fantastic mum. She wanted to give birth in L.A. since she has a big house with a yard. She enjoys sitting outside with her baby.'
The new mum reportedly 'doesn't seem rushed to get back to work' either.
She previously spoke to Vogue US about her plans to juggle motherhood with work, despite admitting: 'Balance is one of my biggest challenges and always has been'.
According to the insider, the singer 'very much enjoys spending quiet time with her baby'.

Rihanna has been spotted for the first time since reportedly giving birth to her and ASAP Rocky's first child, believed to be a boy, on May 13.
The photo, taken from behind on Thursday, May 19, shows the singer dressed casually in a grey oversized jacket, black trousers and black heels. She accessorised the look with dark shades, glittery stud earrings and multiple gold chains.
Prior to Rihanna's photographed outing, a source spoke to People about how the 34-year-old is doing since becoming a mother, noting: 'Rihanna is doing well. They are very excited to be parents. Rihanna is already a wonderful mum.'
Rihanna previously quipped that she'd like to 'hire a party bus' to park outside on the day of her delivery.
According to Entertainment Tonight, Rihanna and ASAP Rocky's relationship has naturally changed since they welcomed their newborn.
A source told the news outlet: '[They're] down to Earth... have similar styles and couldn't be more in love and happy about this next chapter.'
They also detailed how Rocky is feeling since the birth of his first child, explaining: 'Before Rihanna gave birth, ASAP was super involved and was asking his friends for parenting advice. He wants to be the best dad possible and continue to take care of Rihanna. He's really looking forward to raising their baby boy together.'
An insider also told the same outlet: 'They have not left each other's side. They are over the moon. She's been looking forward to motherhood for a long time. This little boy is going to have the best baby fashion.'
Rihanna, who's been fiercely 'pushing the idea of sexy' maternity style in recent months, first revealed her pregnancy on January 31.
At the time, she was photographed walking through New York City showing her baby bump from beneath an unbuttoned pink vintage Chanel coat, accessorised with a Christian Lacroix necklace that draped over her stomach.
The outing followed pregnancy rumours after the singer visited a Sephora cosmetics shop in New York City days earlier wearing an oversized orange coat that revealed a glimpse of her stomach.
Rihanna, who reportedly held a private rave-themed baby shower last month, previously opened up to Vogue US about her fears of postpartum depression and feeling 'out of control, emotionally' following the birth of her baby.
'Will I feel out of control emotionally? Those are the stories I hear from other women that scare me,' she said.
She also delved into her plans to juggle motherhood with work, adding: 'Balance is one of my biggest challenges and always has been. And now there's another human being coming into play, it changes what that means again.'
'Still, I have businesses that aren't going to run themselves. My mum handled the three of us with not even close to the amount of resources that I have, so I can absolutely do it. What it looks like? I'm not sure.'
The mum-of-one previously revealed she kept her pregnancy secret from her friends for a long time, despite them picking up on signs.
Speaking to E! News, she said: 'It was harder for me to keep it from my posse, because they're around me, they know my habits.
'They're like, "You don't want something to drink? You're not smoking?" And I'm eating all the things I'm not used to eating. They know I hate sweets and I'm all of a sudden asking for cookies and donuts. But finally, I just had to let it all out, and they were all shocked, of course, as the world was shocked as well.'
She also discussed her reluctancy to disclose her pregnancy with the public, admitting: 'When I first found out, it's not real, you know? I was like, "This is not for real, right?"
'And then, it was and it's almost like you don't want to get too excited too soon because it's great news, but you... want to see that it's going to see its way through. And I'm so glad that we're this far along and now I can celebrate with everyone.'
