Ridley Scott confirms Gladiator 3 plans
Sir Ridley Scott has confirmed that he is planning to make Gladiator III.
The second film is almost here, 20 years on from the original, but the legendary director is already looking ahead at a third entry, although it's in the very early stages at the moment.
When asked about potential future projects by The Hollywood Reporter, following up on reports of a third film in Premiere, Scott said, "I'd rather get on into Gladiator III. There's already an idea."

He added that, if a third film were to happen, it would be inspired by The Godfather Part II (thankfully, he seems to have abandoned Nick Cave's idea of bringing back Russell Crowe's Maximus).
Gladiator 2 follows a grown-up Lucius, the son of Connie Nielsen's Lucilla, now played by Paul Mescal. Like Nielsen, Sir Derek Jacobi is also back (as Senator Gracchus), while The Last of Us actor Pedro Pascal, Denzel Washington and Stranger Things' Joseph Quinn are newcomers to the cast.
From the footage released so far, Washington has received a fair bit of attention for using his own accent for his North African character.
In a recent interview, Washington defended his choice, stating that it was better he didn't try the accent rather than make a dodgy attempt.

"Well, the thing was, where are we?" he remarked. "Whose accent would it be? What does that sound like anyway? You're going to end up imitating someone and end up with a bad African accent."
He also explained what attracted him to the project, stating in another interview that "There are very few films left for me to make that I'm interested in. I have to be inspired by the filmmaker, and I was tremendously inspired by Ridley.
"We had a great go-round the first go-round, and here we are. He's engaged. He's excited about life and his next film. He's an inspiration. We should all want to feel like that at 86."
Gladiator II will be released in cinemas on November 15 in the UK and November 22 in the US.
