The National Hockey League is taking notice prior to next Wednesday’s matchup between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames.

In an effort to calm the controversy between Flames forward Matthew Tkachuk and Oilers forward Zack Kassian, the league is reportedly talking to both teams before things possibly get out of hand on the ice.

According to Pierre Lebrun on Thursday’s edition of TSN’s “Insider Trading”, major executives within the NHL have contacted both teams.

"[Head of the Department of Player Safety] George Parros and [Executive Vice President and Director of Hockey Operations] Colin Campbell were on the phone on Wednesday in separate calls with the [general managers] from the Battle of Alberta trying to calm those waters down ahead of the Jan. 29 rematch between these two rivals," LeBrun reported.

In addition to the phone call, Parros will also be in attendance for the upcoming Battle of Alberta matchup.

The NHL DoPS served Kassian with a two-game suspension for the post-whistle beatdown he served to Tkachuk after a questionable hit.

After the hearing, the Oilers forward showed no remorse for his attempted fight, while his opponent did not regret “turtling” against the big man.

After the Jan. 29 rematch, the two rivals face off again just three days later.

They’ve been warned.
