Record Rain Kills at Least 8 in Seoul

At least eight people were reported to have died and six were missing in Seoul, South Korea, on August 9 after record overnight rainfall flooded homes, roads and the city’s metro system.

Footage by Instagram user Jin Park shows the conditions in Seoul on the evening of Monday, August 8.

More than five inches (129 mm) of rain fell in Seoul on Monday, with between 100 and 200 mm (3-7 inches) expected to fall on Tuesday.

The Yonhap news agency said the downpour in Seoul was the heaviest in 80 years.
