Rebel Wilson is sharing more details about how people began treating her differently following her weight loss.

The Pitch Perfect actress, 44, spoke to PEOPLE about beginning her “year of health” during the pandemic in 2020. She shared how she slowly lost weight over the course of a year to “drastically change” for the better and help her harvest healthy eggs so she could become a mom.

The change in her appearance brought a significant shift in the kind of attention she received.

“I was getting quite a lot of attention for the weight loss,” she tells PEOPLE in this week’s issue ahead of her upcoming memoir Rebel Rising. “I thought, ‘Gosh, people are so intrigued by this.’ Literally, I got more attention for weight loss than any movie I'd ever done.”

“I know that's superficial, but it was nice. And I went, ‘Oh, is this what hot people experience all the time?’ Their life must be so bloody blessed,” she adds with a laugh, noting that people would hold the door for her or pay more attention, even while shopping.

At the same time, Wilson says it was “such positive reinforcement” that it motivated her to keep up with her healthy regimen.

“It was interesting to know exactly what it's like to be invisible sexually and then to be visible,” she continues. “I've experienced both sides of the coin.”

The Senior Year star admits that the emotional journey that accompanied her weight loss, was, in part, what inspired her to write Rebel Rising, which releases April 2.

“People often out there think that there's some magic pill, or some sick special diet, or exercise regime or whatever,” the comedian explains.

Wilson says she wants her book “to give people the message, if they're like me and an emotional eater, that it's not about that stuff. It's literally about working at a healthier way to deal with your emotions, and there is no magic solution.”

“And then maybe me telling my story might encourage them to do the same and make healthy change in their lives,” she adds.
