Netflix's latest addition to the Rebel Moon franchise, Part Two: The Scargiver, has received a brutal Rotten Tomatoes score after first reviews.

Zack Snyder's second instalment in the epic space opera series landed on the streaming site today (April 19) and has received an even worse response than the first film, currently sitting at 13% on review aggregator site Rotten Tomatoes at the time of writing.

The second film kicks off directly after the events of Part One: A Child of Fire, seeing Kora (Sofia Boutella) and the rebels continuing their war against the Motherworld and its leader Atticus Noble (Ed Skrein).

In its two-star-review of the film, Digital Spy described Rebel Moon - Part Two: The Scargiver as "suffering from the same flaws" as its predecessor, writing: "It's hard to imagine anybody other than hardcore Snyder fans wanting to revisit this world.

"There's no denying Snyder has created an interesting world – he just forgot to tell an interesting story within it."

Here's what other reviews have said:

Forbes

"Rebel Moon would have worked better as a series, with time to focus on each character and grow the relationships between them rather than Snyder's relentless overuse of exposition."

Collider

"Not only is The Scargiver not Snyder's The Empire Strikes Back, but it's even worse than Part One. Its ambitions have gotten infinitely smaller, as though it is all moving backward. That this occurs in slow motion just makes it that much more exhausting."

Screen Rant

"When it comes to the action that was promised at the end of the first Rebel Moon, Snyder certainly delivers. But the issues from the first instalment are still there — and, in some ways, they only get worse."

TheWrap

"Even if a superior version of Rebel Moon does come out eventually, that doesn't make these versions any better, and they're the only versions we have right now. They're both shallow and generic space operas, distractingly derivative of better films while adding very little to the mix."

Slashfilm

"Where the first Rebel Moon plays out like a one-note exercise in repetitiveness, Part Two is really more like two separate features smashed into one."

Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire and Rebel Moon – Part Two: The Scargiver are available to watch on Netflix.
