US channel Bravo has confirmed Real Housewives of Salt Lake City star Jennie Nguyen has been sacked from the show after racist social media posts were discovered.

Fans uncovered a series of posts and memes shared by Nguyen on social media in the past that mocked the Black Lives Matter movement and also made light of violence against protestors.

Fans have been highly critical of Bravo's response to the scandal because the network remained quiet over the posts for days while continuing to film new episodes with Nguyen.

Finally, on Tuesday (January 25), a spokesperson for Bravo responded publicly by acknowledging its silence was not the correct action.

A representative said: "Bravo has ceased filming with Jennie Nguyen and she will no longer be a cast member of The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City.

"We recognize we failed to take appropriate action once her offensive social media posts were brought to our attention. Moving forward, we will work to improve our processes to ensure we make better informed and more thoughtful casting decisions."

All of Nguyen's co-stars have condemned her social media posts, but only after Bravo allegedly lifted a gag on the cast while it considered next steps, according to RHOSLC cast member Jen Shah.

During an appearance on Bravo's Watch What Happens Live on Sunday (January 25), RHOSLC star Lisa Barlow told host (and Housewives producer) Andy Cohen: "I hope everyone does better, but I definitely don't condone those [posts]."

Jen Shah was the first to react publicly with an Instagram statement where she wrote about being "deeply offended by the racially insensitive posts and comments".

"It was infuriating to see her like and repost comments that made a mockery and showed complete apathy towards those marching to bring awareness to deep-seeded social justice issues that plague our country," Shah wrote.

Shah later alleged she'd been threatened with firing for speaking out before the network approved, but producer Andy Cohen has since denied the reality star will be penalised.

Nguyen reacted to the controversy by saying she "deeply regrets" her past posts and is sorry for "the pain they caused".

The Real Housewives of Salt Lake City also airs on Bravo in the US and episodes are available to stream on hayu in the UK.
