Razer revealed a prototype for its new mask which includes an N95 filter, a voice amp and, yes, RGB lights.

The Singaporean American tech company dropped the news via Twitter. In the debut video, Razer director Charlie Bolton introduced the mask as Project Hazel and described it as “the world’s smartest mask.”

It seems that Project Hazel is designed to be an advanced, sturdy mask that’s suitable for long-term use. According to the listing on Razer’s website, the mask will have replaceable filters and ventilators and a wireless charging case that also acts as a UV sterilizer. It will also be built with waterproof, transparent plastic and an airtight silicone seal.

All of that sounds pretty good. And if that wasn’t enough to sell you on it, it also has a low-light feature, a voice amp so you don’t sound muffled and, of course, RGB lights. Razer is a PC gaming company, after all.

Razer is primarily known for its high-end PC gaming hardware, so Project Hazel may feel like something out of its wheelhouse. While it’s certainly an unprecedented product, Razer has gained some considerable experience in mask manufacturing in the past year.

When the World Health Organization (WHO) officially declared COVID-19 as a global pandemic in March 2020, Razer was one of the first corporations to respond. Razer CEO Min-Liang Tan announced that the company had already converted some of its manufacturing lines to produce surgical masks a week after WHO’s announcement.

This was done at the company’s expense, since the worldwide quarantine has also sparked a surge in consumers buying gaming products.

Since then, Razer has donated millions of masks worldwide to frontline healthcare workers and civilians.

Project Hazel does not yet have a release date or a price.
