Ray Parker Jr Isn't A Fan Of The New Ghostbusters Theme Tune
It sounds like Ray Parker Jr hasn’t met anyone who likes Fall Out Boy’s new Ghostbusters theme tune either.
Parker Jr, who coined the phrases ‘who you gonna call?’ and 'I ain’t afraid of no ghost’ back in 1984, was diplomatic when asked what he thought of 'Ghostbusters (I’m Not Afraid)’.
But you don’t need to be Peter Venkman-esque expert in E.S.P. to know what he’s really trying to say.
He told Inside Edition that the song was 'interesting’, adding: “I’m not going to say it’s good or bad.
“I’m just going to say 'maybe I’m an old guy now, and I like it the old way’.
“I wished they had called me to maybe work with some of the younger guys and maybe get a direction.
“Because some of the main things that you should do with the music to a film like that, some of the young guys just didn’t do that at all.”
Fall Out Boy have been roundly slated for the remade track, which flips the soulful 80s pop vibes for chugging, punk guitars.
By contrast, a version of the track for the Japanese release of Paul Feig’s new movie has received widespread praise.
Parker Jr scored himself a Grammy for the original track, as well as a Billboard number one, and a swathe of other number ones all around the world, including France, Spain, Canada and Belgium (it reached number two in the UK).
As well as selling over three million copies, it was nominated for an Oscar, but was just beaten by Stevie Wonder’s 'I Just Called To Say I Love You’, from 'The Woman In Red’.
