Raptors staff to coach remotely due to COVID-19 protocols

The Toronto Raptors coaching staff, including Nick Nurse and five other members, will coach remotely after being placed in the NBA's health and safety protocols, the league announced Friday.

Nurse and his shorthanded staff will coach their first game remotely during Friday's contest against the Houston Rockets. Raptors general manager Bobby Webster will speak to media at 5:45 p.m. during the standard pre-game interview slot that is allotted for the head coach.

It's unclear how the Raptors staff came in contact with the virus, or if there is a positive test within the team. The Raptors have been unwilling to share any health information. The Raptors played their last game on Wednesday on the road against the Miami Heat. The team did not hold practice on Thursday, although it's not uncommon for players to still come in for extra work on off-days.

Nurse's staff was already shorthanded, having lost lead assistant Chris Finch to the Minnesota Timberwolves earlier this week, and with Sergio Scariolo still in quarantine after leaving to coach the Spanish National Team at a qualifier in Poland.
