US House ethics panel makes no decision on Gaetz findings
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -The U.S. House of Representatives Ethics Committee made no decision on Thursday on what to do with the findings of its investigation into alleged sexual misconduct and drug use by ex-congressman Matt Gaetz, who has dropped his bid to become President-elect Donald Trump's attorney general. The committee's Republican chairman, Representative Michael Guest, told reporters after the meeting that the ethics panel intends to meet again by the end of the year. Thursday is also the deadline for the full Republican-controlled House to consider a motion to force the panel to release its report on Gaetz, 42, who resigned from Congress in November hours after Trump tapped him as a potential attorney general.

Citigroup promotes 344 executives to managing directors
Citigroup on Thursday announced the promotion of 344 executives in 29 countries to managing directors, known as MD, the bank's higher officer title. A memo sent to all employees by the executive management committee said this year had one of "the largest MD cohorts in our firm's history." The committee also said the managing directors are instrumental in "ensuring we continue making progress on our Transformation and with our regulators," referring to compliance with 2020 Federal Reserve and Office of the Comptroller of the Currency consent orders.

7.0 magnitude earthquake reported off Northern California coast, tsunami warning canceled
A 7.0 magnitude earthquake was reported off the coast of Northern California on Thursday, according to the United States Geological Survey. The epicenter of the "strong" quake was off the coast near Petrolia, in Humboldt County, the USGS said. Also, a tsunami warning that had been issued for coastal areas in California and Oregon, including San Francisco, was canceled just before noon local time.

NASA announces further delays in Artemis moon missions
WASHINGTON (Reuters) -NASA Administrator Bill Nelson announced on Thursday new delays in the U.S. space agency's Artemis program to return astronauts to the moon for the first time since 1972, pushing back the next two planned missions amid potential policy changes under President-elect Donald Trump's administration. Nelson told a news conference at NASA headquarters that the next Artemis mission, sending astronauts around the moon and back, has slipped to April 2026, with the subsequent astronaut landing mission using SpaceX's Starship planned for the following year. "Assuming the SpaceX lander is ready, we plan to launch Artemis III in mid-2027," Nelson said.

Man dies after dog attack in Stratford
A man has died after being fatally injured by a dog in east London on Wednesday morning, the Metropolitan Police said. Officers were called to Shirley Road in Stratford at 4.53am on Wednesday, following reports the man had been seriously wounded, Scotland Yard said.
