We've all been there, I guess.

New York Rangers fans displayed perhaps the most sincere and raw reaction to a call that didn't go their way on Friday night, throwing literal trash onto the ice after a goal that would have tied the game against the Minnesota Wild with one second remaining in regulation was called off for goalie interference.

With Ryan Strome, Mika Zibanejad and Artemi Panarin all wrestling in front of Cam Talbot's goal with the Wild leading 3-2, the crowd at Madison Square Garden exploded as soon as the puck hit the back of the net, even though the officials immediately waved off the goal.

The initial explanation was that "the attacking players pushed the goalie into the net," which would categorize as goalie interference. Zibanejad, however, chose to ignore the whistle and celebrated as if his goal had counted.

Naturally, officials took a moment to review the crucial play. And when the call on the ice was confirmed, in the heat of the moment and with the Rangers having come so close to sending the game into overtime, all hell broke loose.

It's understandable that Rangers fans were a bit on edge. New York opened up a two-goal lead in the first period only to see Minnesota work its way back into the game, tying it up in the second with Frederick Gaudreau eventually scoring the winning goal in the third frame.

And on Henrik Lundqvist night no less.

All things considered, the Rangers have no reason to panic (or litter) just yet. Despite Friday night's chaos, New York still holds the third-best record in the Metropolitan division at 28-13-4 and has won six of its last 10 games.

Although naturally it may be tough to reason with heartbroken fans. No judgment here.
