Railbird tickets snatched up during record pre-sale. One is now listed for more than $4K

After Railbird Festival tickets sold out in about three hours, angering some would-be attendees, resellers have already begun posting listings on third-party sites.

The pre-sale began at noon Thursday, and organizers announced on Twitter the event was sold out around 3 p.m.

Seat Geek had tickets listed for $297 to $3,051 each Thursday afternoon, depending on the number of days included in admission and the type of ticket.

Resellers listed tickets on Vivid Seats for $302 to $2,985. Stubhub tickets went for $328 to $4,499, upsetting fans who were unable to secure tickets at list prices during the official sale.

Ticket pricing from Railbird Festival started at $99 for single-day general admission and went up to $1,500 for two-day, platinum-level admission.

Railbird Festival was canceled in 2022, and the 2021 event was marked with hot weather and long lines to access beverages, according to previous reports. The 2023 festival will move from its Keeneland location to the Infield at Red Mile.

The Lexington music festival, set for June 3 and 4, 2023, takes its name from the term railbird, which traditionally refers to a “horse racing enthusiast known for sticking close to the action, hanging on the rail as each contender comes barreling down the track,” according to the event website.
