Rage Against the Machine postpones reunion tour to summer 2022

The much-anticipated, oft-delayed Rage Against The Machine reunion tour is being bumped back yet again, with the band currently scheduled to play their first show in 11 years in Wisconsin.

Initially scheduled for 2020, the "Public Service Announcement" tour was bumped back to 2021, and then again to 2022, due to COVID-19. It was set to start March 31 this year in El Paso, Texas.

But on Thursday, the band announced on social media that the tour's first 19 shows, through May 23 in Detroit, will be postponed. "We will back to you soon with the rerouted dates," the band wrote.

New dates have yet to be announced, but previously purchased tickets will be honored. Refunds are available for 30 days through the point of purchase.

The tour delay wasn't a big surprise.

Rage was noticeably absent from the 2022 Coachella lineup that was revealed last week, after being booked as one of the headliners for the ultimately canceled edition of the festival in 2020.

On Thursday, the band also announced it will no longer be headlining the Boston Calling festival in May as previously announced.

That means the band's appearance at Alpine Valley Music Theatre on July 9 will be the tour kickoff. Eighteen shows scheduled after that one, through a Madison Square Garden gig Aug. 14, are still on as planned. Run The Jewels will still open all of the tour's remaining shows.

Besides being Rage's first show since 2011, the Alpine Valley concert will also be one of the first concerts at the East Troy amphitheater since 2019.

The Live Nation-operated venue was closed in 2020 and 2021 because of the pandemic. Earlier this week, Slipknot announced it was bringing its Slipknot Roadshow tour to Alpine Valley on June 4.
