Race toddlers and dogs at the annual Truckin’ It 5K and fun run in Port Royal

Toddlers and pups are invited to join the second annual JSLB Touch-A-Truck Truckin’ It 5K in Port Royal next weekend. Parents are welcome, too.

The run will take place at the Live Oaks Park on Saturday, Dec. 4, according to the event’s website. It is being set up by the Junior Service League of Beaufort, a women’s group that aims to create community events and fundraisers for families in Beaufort and Jasper counties.

The race will be from 9 until 11 a.m., and an awards ceremony for the 5K will be at the JSLB’s Lowcountry Santa event at the Port Royal Community Beer Garden on Sands Beach Road, the website said.

The Lowcountry Santa event will be held at the garden from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. and includes a raffle and food trucks. Photos can be taken with Santa. He will also be accepting unwrapped gifts as donations for Toys for Tots.

The deadline to register online for the race is Wednesday, Dec. 1. It costs $35 for the 5K and $15 for the single-mile fun run. Runners may also register on-site on Dec. 4, the website said. Registration for the fun run ends at 8:30 a.m. and at 9 a.m. for the 5K. T-shirts will be given on a first-come, first-served basis, according to the website.

The forecast for race day is sunny with a high near 69 degrees, according to the National Weather Service in Charleston.
