Yahoo Movies A Quiet Place Part II sets pandemic record with $100m at US box office
A Quiet Place Part II and its post-apocalyptic world seem to be the tonic people wanted after a year of pandemic, as it's set a new box-office record.
The horror sequel has become the first film released following the COVID-19 outbreak to make $100 million at the US box office.
Normally that number is nothing to write home about for a major Hollywood release, but over the last year we've seen tentpole movies rake in much lower amounts that normal.

As reported by Variety, A Quiet Place Part II took 15 days to cross that threshold and currently stands at $108 million there, beating out Godzilla vs Kong, which has made $99.6 million in the United States.
The publication also states that A Quiet Place Part II has earned another $80 million internationally, so it should pass the $200 million mark.
The first movie made $340 million globally when there was no pandemic, so it's a very solid performance (although the sequel's $61 million budget dwarves the original's modest $17 million).

The film will also debut on streaming service Paramount+ in the US in a few weeks, so the studio is obviously hoping it will attract people to subscribe in lieu of bigger box office receipts.
Still, it knows it's got a good property on its hands, as it's just announced a release date for a third entry/spin-off.
A Quiet Place Part II is out in UK cinemas now.
