They're one of the most iconic couples in the world, but nobody knows Prince William and Kate Middleton better than their own family, which just so happens to be comprised of the British Royal Family. It's been noted over the years that the Queen in particular is very close to the Cambridges, which makes sense given that William is second in line to her throne, and is especially moved by one aspect of the couple's marriage.

Speaking to OK! magazine about what Her Majesty loves the most when it comes to Prince William and Kate Middleton's union, royal biographer Andrew Morton, revealed that it's really rather a sweet trait. "The thing about Kate is... the Queen was impressed [that] she adored and loved William for himself, not for his title," he explained.

Morton added that the Queen appears especially invested in the Cambridge's marriage too (and that she's quite an ideal counsellor on that front, given her own successful union with Prince Philip that spanned over 70 years).

"She spends a lot more time supporting and nurturing the relationship between William and Catherine than she did with Charles and Diana," the biographer said.

"It's pretty clear she wasn’t going to make that mistake again. Everything that happened in [Kate and William’s] relationship was strategic, thought through, after a period of time.

"In the beginning, nobody in the Royal Household expected for a second that the university romance with Catherine and William would continue for any time after they graduated, like most college romances which [disintegrate] under the intense scrutiny of jobs and geography."

Morton is the author of Diana: In Her Own words, an explosive tell-all book that saw the Princess of Wales open up to him like never before, sharing her own intimate thoughts on life as a royal and her marriage to William's father, Prince Charles.
