Quentin Tarantino Thinks The Intern Should Win An Oscar

It wouldn’t be Oscars season without a healthy bit of dialogue, so besides the controversy of the 2016 awards snubbing persons of colour, director Quentin Tarantino has spoken about his bizarre choice for glory.

Speaking recently to Metro, the acclaimed writer-director said that one of his favourites of 2015 was ‘The Intern’. (Yes, seriously.)

QT unashamedly revealed: “One of my favourite movies this last year was Nancy Meyers’ ‘The Intern’.” But it didn’t stop there with his praise for the movie - he thinks it should’ve been nominated for Oscars.

“They’re not considering that for the Oscars even though I think Robert De Niro gave one of the best performances this year in that movie. I thought the script was actually one of her best. Right up there with ‘It’s Complicated’. They’re not asking her to be part of the discussion.”

It’s certainly an interesting opinion, with the film totalling at 61% on Rotten Tomatoes and it didn’t exactly set the film world alight when it was released, but QT’s entitled to his opinion.

It was only last year that the ‘Pulp Fiction’ director admitted his love for rom-coms, so it perhaps comes as no surprise that this comedy starring Robert De Niro and Anne Hathaway was near the top of his favourites list.

Still, we’re struggling to see where ‘The Intern’ would’ve fit into the nominations and if Bob De Niro could’ve really competed against the likes of Eddie Redmayne and Le Di Caprio. (We don’t think he would’ve really stood a chance, in honesty.)

It’s one (commendable) act trying to include female director such as Meyers into a male-orientated film discourse, but trying to fight its corner for Oscar noms? Not so much.
