The Duke and Duchess of Sussex have sent a wreath to be laid during Prince Philip's funeral at St George's Chapel in Windsor today (Saturday, April 17th).

Meghan is unable to attend the service this afternoon as she is heavily pregnant with her second child and remains at home in Santa Barbara.

The wreath includes a handwritten note from the duchess, known for her love of calligraphy, and features flowers locally sourced from the area.

The carefully selected flowers in the wreath bear significance as they as include acanthus mollis (known as bear's breeches), the national flower of Greece to represent Prince Philip's family heritage. The duke was born in Greece and his mother was Princess Alice of Greece. The wreath also includes eryngium, also known sea holly, to acknowledge his time in the Royal Navy.

It's also being reported that the wreath features campanula, which is said to symbolise gratitude and everlasting love, lavender for devotion, rosemary for remembrance, and roses in tribute to June, the month the Duke of Edinburgh was born.

The duke and duchess commissioned one of their favourite florists Willow Crossley, based in West Oxfordshire, to design the wreath. The florist also provided the flower arrangements for royal couple's wedding reception at Frogmore Gardens in 2018.

Prince Philip's ceremonial funeral is taking place today at 3pm at St George's Chapel in Windsor. Only 30 guests have been able to attend due to coronavirus restrictions. Guests include Prince Charles and Princess Anne who have been leading the procession, with a modified Land Rover carrying Prince Philip's coffin to the chapel for the service.

The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, Princess Beatrice and Edoardo Mapelli Mozzi, and Princess Eugenie and Jack Brooksbank will also be in attendance.
