Prince George and Princess Charlotte pictured out with Prince William on Father's Day

What with COVID restrictions and the fact that Prince William and Kate Middleton generally like to keep their children out of the spotlight, it's not often that we get to see Prince George, Princess Charlotte or Prince Louis make public appearances. But the Cambridges broke with that tradition this weekend, as the couple's eldest two children were spotted out in public at an event with their dad.

In photographs published by the Daily Mail, seven-year-old Prince George and six-year-old Princess Charlotte were seen attending a half marathon race on Sunday, which was Father's Day. The event took place on the Sandringham Estate in Norfolk, where the family have a country home, Anmer Hall. Dressed casually in navy chinos and a light blue shirt, Prince William counted down to mark the start of the race with George and Charlotte on the microphone.

Prince George and Princess Charlotte were both dressed in shorts for the occasion, and it seems the pair have both inherited their parents' tall genes as they appeared to have grown since previous public appearances. The last time the Cambridge children were spotted out at an event was just before Christmas, when the family attended a pantomime in London held for key workers during the pandemic.

Princess Charlotte - dressed in a pink Ralph Lauren jumper over a polka dot blouse - looked to be her typically bold self, smiling and waving to attendees of the race. Older brother Prince George, who often appears a little more coy than his sister, did join in the public waving too, however. Getting some practice in for when he'll be king one day...

It was sweet to see Charlotte and George spending some quality time with their dad Prince William on Father's Day, and the Duke and Duchess also took to Instagram to celebrate the special day. Posting a video of a cork board with the words 'Happy Father's Day' on it, William and Kate shared four photos for the occasion. One showed Kate Middleton with her own dad, Michael Middleton, while another photo from the archives featured a young Prince William alongside younger brother Prince Harry and their dad Prince Charles.

The cork board also featured two more pinned photographs - a previously unseen one of Prince William with his three children, and a final image depicting Queen Elizabeth and the late Prince Philip surrounded by all their great-grandchildren. This picture was first shared in April, following the Duke of Edinburgh's death, having been taken by Kate Middleton at Balmoral Castle in Scotland in 2018.

It's unknown how the Cambridges celebrated the rest of Father's Day privately as a family, but with such a big smile on his face in these newly-taken photographs, perhaps Prince William was treated to breakfast in bed or his favourite meal for dinner... Happy Father's Day, William!
